How to make spaghetti creatures for dinner

I saw this idea on a blog somewhere but can't remember so sorry for not linking. EDIT - I've just been reminded that it came from Filth Wizardy - a super cool site that does a bunch of fun things.
I know hot dogs aren't the best dinner option but they were fun to make and I threw in some broccoli so it was sorta healthy.
I want to try and get Lilo more involved with making dinner so hopefully she will try new things. We had fun making these.
Cut up hot dogs and break dry spaghetti noodles in half so they were easier to work if you want.
Start poking in the noodles into the hot dog pieces. You can play around with how you put the noodles in.
Isla wanted to help too but she just kept trying to eat the raw noodles and hot dogs, so I put some cheese pieces up there so she could grab and eat them instead.
Then just boil up some water and throw the hot dog creatures until the spaghetti is done. I threw in some broccoli to the boiling water at the end to cook that up too.

Then drain and serve with pasta sauce. They girl both loved them. The person who originally posted this also tried using carrots which she pre-cooked a bit to soften. And you could try other foods too that you would boil to cook.

I did this the other day, too, and my 3yo and 19 month old both ate them up! We used whole wheat spaghetti noodles & turkey hot dogs.

great idea. I'm going to try that for lunch one day. Anything to get out of the peanut butter and jam every day for lunch routine.

Hi there
Thanks for visiting my blog. Regarding the chutney, I would treat it in the same way as pickles, so have it with cheese, pate, meat etc, but especially with cheese!
It was really very easy to make.

Hi again
I'm sure you must have mixed spice under a different name over there! You usually find it with the dried herbs and spices in the supermarket and it's a mixture of the following:
cinnamon, coriander, caraway, nutmeg, ginger and cloves.

Hope this helps :o)

I think both this idea and the pancakes one are from Filth Wizardry (http://filthwizardry.blogspot.com/). She does all kinds of amazing stuff with her kids.

Thanks JHill - I have updated my post with the links back. The pancakes I actually originally saw on Avacado & Papaya.
